I actually this exact bottom bracket on my Felt...and it sucks. It lasted me several months and got toasted. A new Shimano Hollowtech BB with the Di2 build is coming....

Fix it, sell the felt, get a new di2 felt. Save some money

1. Hollowtech II is the pinnacle of the BB.

2. I am two years on 6770 Di2, worthy splurdge. I love it.

I’m buying Di2 at shop mechanic pricing and a felt road di2 bike is like 4 grand.

No chris king Isis bottom brackets. They didn't get in the game until after external bottom brackets were a thing.

The cracking sound of the toasted bearings sound like the ticking of a bomb.

Hollowtech II has one fault: inability to be rebuilt.

ISIS definitely wasn’t the best bottom bracket design. The bearings tended to be too small, but there is definitely an environmental factor. I had one that lasted quite a while on a bike I only rode on nice days in the summer. People in wetter weather saw worse results.

Although I have some beef with external bottom brackets, their longevity tends not to be a problem even in bad weather. Hard to go wrong with Shimano.

Replacing the bottom bracket on my bike was a huge improvement (just a square taper setup here). Getting the old one unscrewed was a tremendous pain though. I clearly needed a much bigger breaker bar for the drive side...

I think Chris King would know better not to make a fundamentally flawed product.

Shimano just has bottom brackets that are designed to not be put back together. That’s the only problem.

True, but when cared for, it makes for a pretty durable and strong BB.

As a side question (from a guy who hasn’t been behind the counter for 15 years) are the discounts still as good as they used to be?

It’s pretty good, but there are frequent shortages of components..

They’re junk. Everything about them, from the hearing design to the splined spindle that wears out all the time. But if you’ve got Di2 money, that is a good route to go.
